ODDA 31 Erwin Wurm

ODDA 31 “An Emotional Turmoil” is a journey between what you love, what you fear, pain, excitement, choices and evolution, always looking forward to what’s next.

For half a century, Erwin Wurm has treated sculpture as a verb rather than a noun, stretching cars, houses, and even his own body until form buckles under absurdity. Ahead of ODDA’s issue on Emotional Turmoil, the Austrian artist spoke to us about growing up in postwar Styria, the frustration that shaped his career, and why he no longer trusts technology to finish what an idea starts.

For ODDA 31, Erwin chats with Benjamin Schiffer about childhood, memory, the absurd, frustration, failure, technology and the uncertainty that continues to shape his work.
